The Porsche 992.2 GT3 Touring Philosophy

When this Porsche 992.2 911 GT3 Touring arrived at Butler Tires and Wheels, the objective was refinement not revision. The GT3’s Touring package represents Porsche at its most restrained, focusing on fun, balance, and driver connection as opposed to its winged counterpart.

Every decision when considering the upgrades seen here was made with those ideas in mind, ensuring any changes to the platform felt like an upgrade to the car’s original character.

The Porsche GT3 Touring is defined by minimalism. Bold modifications were not required, but simply accentuating the nuances that make this the ultimate wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing (in the Porsche world anyhow) was the only order of business here.

Sharpening the Formula Without Changing the Character

Our focus was clear from the start: sharpen what’s already there. Each choice was guided by proportion, weight, and aesthetic balance, with the goal of making the car feel more balanced, composed, and complete.

The Porsche 911 is arguably one of the best sports cars money can buy, but let’s be honest: to the untrained eye they all sort of look the same. Enter Butler Tires and Wheels’ magic wand…

First, the color. White. Or silver, Or silvery gray? It doesn’t matter, it wasn’t good enough to check that ‘one of one’ box. The Icy Gray Metallic paint takes on a completely different look from SunTek Stealth PPF. Not only does the satin finish reduce shine and bring more focus to the Porsche 992’s wider rear tire and updated aero, but a wonderful side effect is that the front-end is almost immune to rock chips, and the rest of the car is swirl-proof under a suit of armor. This process and product result in a cleaner look that still feels controlled but looks all business.

Forged Wheels & Performance Tire Setup: Built on proportion

At the center of the build, and the main focal point, is a set of forged 1886 S005 wheels measuring 21 inches in front and 22 inches in the rear. These were chosen for their clean, five-spoke design that match the Touring’s principles. The brushed finish complements the Touring’s Icy Gray metallic color, enhancing the visual balance.

To top it off, the rear wheels are 13 inches wide and wear Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in size 335/25/22—that’s over 13 inches of rear contact patch, and almost an inch wider than the factory rubber. Major bonus: these ultra high-performance tires are pretty darn good in the frigid temperatures where the factory Michelin Cup 2’s simply loses hope and traction until they are very, very warm.

This is a far better year-round tire for this car than the track-focused R spec tires that the Porsche GT3 is equipped with at the factory. Would the Michelin Cup 2 handle track time better? Definitely. But the 4S has much better grip in cold temps and being that this Porsche GT3 is a daily driver, having a track tire that will wear out in 4,000 miles doesn’t make any sense.

To get the stance absolutely perfect, Porsche sends this car from the factory with a height
adjustable coilover suspension, so all it takes is a few turns of a wrench and a rock solid
alignment and we have a fender-flush wheel fitment that barely fits a credit card between the tire and the fender. This is all by design, as the wheels were ordered to fit the car lowered, not stock.

When these cars are lowered the top of the tire leans in toward the center of the car, so the
wheels were ordered with a more aggressive stance to ensure a flush fitment after lowering. Another bonus round: more aggressive camber settings allow for more grip in the twisties, so all that extra rubber is put to very good use.

Opening Up the Flat-Six: Akrapovič Exhaust & M-Engineering Tune

There is only one gripe with the updated 992.2 motor, and that is the sound. The car is a few pound feet down on torque as compared to its 992.1 older siblings, and this is due to European emissions regulations. There is so much catalyst material it is a wonder this thing winds out to 9000 RPM at all. The factory setup has two HUGE catalysts at the end of the headers, and as if that didn’t scrub enough emissions, there are two more gigantic catalysts INSIDE the factory exhaust along with a large helping of particulate filter material (thankfully, unmonitored on US designated cars).

Akrapovič Systems fixes the sound with a slip-on exhaust, including catted headers that allow the monster to breathe properly. The car passes even California emissions and finally sounds like a proper 911 GT3. Without even touching the ECU, this car picked up nearly 40-wheel horsepower and about the same in pound feet of torque. Yes, you can feel every single one of those extra ponies. Yes, it sounds like the world is ending at 9000 RPM. Yes, that is what heaven sounds like. Yes, the car has more than enough power stock, but…that’s never enough.

To back up the improved sound, an M-Engineering tune improves the throttle response, optimizes the engine to drink only 93 octane fuel, adds some timing, and finds another 40 or so horsepower. Everything feels quicker and more responsive without creating difficulty driving on real roads, and again, passes even the most stringent emissions standards.

The Result – A Porsche 992.2 GT3 Touring Built by Butler Tires and Wheels

What makes this GT3 Touring feel complete is how everything comes together. Wheels, tires, suspension, sound, and the factory design all feel like they belong. Nothing feels out of place, and nothing pulls focus where it shouldn’t. The result is a Porsche 992.2 GT3 Touring that feels finished from every angle - clean, balanced, and a clear focus on the drive.
